The Rollins Bowl has always attracted some of the best Star sailors in California and in the West Coast. This year’s Rollins Bowl will prove to be even a bigger draw of talents.

The caliber of competition will be high with several World Champions and North American Champions expected to appear.

Support Our International Star Class by Renewing Your Membership or Joining

Our beloved Star Class would not have lasted for over a century without the support of its members and many volunteers. Our Class has lasted through two World Wars, a depression, several recessions, the 60′s, the disco era, the Vietnam & Iraq War, the tech boom, and the recent real estate bust.

Through all those mile stones which are now part of our rich history it is our passion for the sport of sailing and our love for the Star Class that has made our Class endure.

Support our Star Class by renewing or joining as an “Active member” if you own a Star. Renew or join as an “Associate member” if you are a crewman on a Star or would like to simply support our Star Class.

Upcoming February Regattas – MidWinters & SDYC ODW

Saturday February 4th is the next San Diego Yacht Club One Design Weekend Regatta. Since Sunday the 5th is Super Bowl Sunday, no racing will be held that day. Online registration and NOR is available here.

Get ready for the 83rd annual Southern California Yachting Association MidWinters Regatta. This is the regatta that kicks off the Star Class season. It is on the 18th and 19th of February. Entry application is available here.

SDYC One Design Weekend (ODW) Schedule

It’s always good to have a few Cheerleaders in our class. This season we have Ben Mitchell from San Diego Yacht Club (SDYC) promoting their One Design Weekend (ODW). Benny as we know him, has been rallying more Stars to come out and play with some of the Rock Stars down there.

2012 D5 Full Schedule Now Final

2011 Rollin's Bowl winners: Mark Reynolds, Hal Haenel, Mark Strube, Erik Lidecis, Jim Buckingham, George Szabo

With the help of several members in our District and the help of Racing Chairs of the hosting Yacht Clubs, our 2012 District 5 race schedule is now final (see right sidebar).

This season the District 5 Championship will be hosted by Newport Harbor Yacht Club on the weekend of June 30th and July 1st.

We are also continuing the “2012 Stump Peters Series”, a five regatta series first started last season (denoted by “SP” on schedule). The series brought out top teams in our district like Mark Reynolds /Hal Haenel and George Szabo / Mark Strube. Last season’s Stump Peter’s Series winners were:

King of Spain / D5 Championship NOR Admendment – Important!

Please note the deadline to register for the King of Spain / D5 Championship via online registration is 1900 Friday July 22nd. Any entry made after that time must be approved by the District Secretary, Rick Peters, at his discretion.

Please also note that there is also a weigh in for the skippers and crews that are competing for the the D5 Championship. For further details, please refer to the NOR Amendment #1 to NOR.

Save those Hall Passes

Save those hall passes, because you will need lots of them for the rest of the year. With the centennial of our Star Class this year, you will not want to miss the Centennial Celebration in Larchmont, New York September 12th – 18th. There will be a Wooden & Classics Class regatta which will be held September 14th – 15th. The modern class (hull numbers above 7299) will race September 16th – 18th. For additional information visit the Centennial events page. After the celebration don’t bother bringing your Star back from the East Coast because the North American Championship will be held in Tampa, Florida November 11th – 16th hosted by Davis Island Yacht Club. Then of course there is the Rolex Miami OCR in January and Bacadi Cup in March, also in Miami.

Why not start the celebration early and train for our class Centennial Celebration early by racing in the King of Spain Regatta this July 23rd and 24th hosted by California Yacht Club. The King of Spain Regatta is also our district championship, so expect more competition than usual! After the King of Spain it’s on to the Lipton Cup in picturesque Santa Barbara held August 13th -14th. There is nothing like racing in beautiful conditions against a striking backdrop that is the Santa Barbara Mountains. Santa Barbara Yacht Club has hosted this event for the past 60 years and has always welcomed our class with open arms. Awards will also be given to the top finisher of the 7000 and under hull numbered Star.
